JUMPSTART
Introduced in 1991, JUMPSTART is administered under the CHAMP Program and provides additional support to children with multiple amputations. JUMPSTART was developed by War Amps Chief Executive Officer, Cliff Chadderton, with the particular needs of the multiple amputee child in mind. The key to future independence is at the core of JUMPSTART.
JUMPSTART gives children with multiple amputations (Super Champs) who are enrolled in CHAMP a head start on tomorrow by providing computer systems, educational software, adaptive technology and training at an early age. Cliff Chadderton calls the computer “the great equalizer.” An early start is the first step towards computer literacy and a future where computer knowledge will unlock the door to employment.
JUMPSTART is committed to keeping Super Champs up-to-date on the latest computer technology. Research into adaptive hardware and software such as voice-recognition software, specially designed keyboards and mice is ongoing.
Super Champs have their own seminar. These Multiple Amputation Seminars address their special needs and requirements, such as: independence, education, and strategies to gain future employment as adults.
JUMPSTART offers many computer training opportunities for Super Champs such as special workshops at Multiple Amputation Seminars. These workshops focus on improving and maintaining Super Champs' computer skills, as well as introducing them to new technologies.
“For the Super Champs of today and the future, it is a world where computers can be and are being used to make the difference.”
