Programs
For Amputees
The War Amps has more than 90 years of experience in providing support to Canadian amputees. One of the primary goals of the National Amputee Centre is to educate amputees and their families about all aspects of amputation.
The War Amps offers programs for child and adult amputees:
- CHAMP Program (for Canadian child amputees under eighteen years of age)
- Adult Prosthetics Program (for Canadian amputee adults)
The Adult Prosthetics Program provides financial assistance to Canadian amputees towards the cost of artificial limbs. As a charitable organization, it is important that those needing assistance also access other funding sources available to them. Contact the National Amputee Centre to obtain a registration form.
Amputees have specific issues adjusting to life as an amputee. The National Amputee Centre has a wealth of information available about artificial limbs, daily living aids, returning to the workforce, and other resources concerning all areas of amputation. Our Living With Amputation Newsletter covers issues relating to amputation and each edition includes a feature resource and daily living aids for specific activities.
For Prosthetists
For many years, The War Amps has worked closely with prosthetists and the prosthetics industry to ensure Canadian amputees receive up-to-date prosthetic fittings. Through the National Amputee Centre, information on the many aspects of amputation, including artificial limbs, is shared with amputees and the health care professionals who serve their needs.
Prosthetics Education Program
The War Amps Prosthetics Education Program offers funding to Canadian prosthetists, prosthetic technicians, orthotists and orthotic technicians to attend courses to upgrade their skills. The War Amps offers this program to help ensure prosthetists, prosthetic technicians, orthotists and orthotic technicians have access to up-to-date technology, new innovations, products and techniques to benefit Canadian amputees.
