The War Amps is a registered charitable organization operated under the direction of war amputees. Key Tag Service was launched in 1946 as a means for the organization to achieve its goals. Can we order more key tags?
Certainly! You can order more key tags online. Please allow four weeks for delivery.
What do I do if I find a set of keys?
If you find a set of keys that has a War Amps key tag, you have two options. For the quickest and most effective service, call our toll-free number, 1 800 250-3030. You will be asked for the key tag number found on the front of the tag. We will arrange for a bonded courier to pick up the keys and return them to their owner.
The second option is simple. Deposit the keys in any mailbox. Canada Post delivers them to us and we return them by courier to the owner.
At no time will we divulge the name and address of the owner to the finder. We must at all times protect the identification of those who own the keys.
Will my keys be returned to me if I have not donated?
Yes. Your keys will be returned to you as long as the War Amps key tag is attached to them and the finder follows the instructions provided on the back of the tag. The Key Tag Service will return your keys to you free of charge. There is no obligation to donate, however, we are grateful for any contribution our supporters feel is appropriate.
Will my keys be returned to me if I lose them outside of Canada?
The War Amps Key Tag Service is uniquely Canadian. When a set of keys with a War Amps key tag is deposited in any mailbox in Canada, it is forwarded to us by Canada Post. We do not have a similar arrangement with postal services outside of Canada. Although some keys have been returned to Canadian owners from locations abroad, we cannot guarantee that our tags will protect your keys if they are lost outside of Canada.
We can guarantee, though, that the toll-free number listed on the back of the tag does work in the United States. If you lose your keys in the U.S., chances are we will be in touch with you through our Key Return by Courier Service.
Why does my key tag number change every year?
Key tag identification numbers change each year to maintain the confidentiality of our files and to keep our files current at all times. This allows us to return lost keys without delay to anyone who uses our Key Tag Service.
What happens if I lose a set of keys with an old key tag attached to it?
In order to prevent delays in returning keys to their rightful owners, we recommend that you attach a current key tag to your key chains. Otherwise, we must refer to our archives, which do not contain up-to-date information. It is also highly recommended that those who use this service should contact The War Amps to ensure that we have the most current name, address and telephone information on file by calling 1 800 250-3030 or submit a change online.
Do I have to drive in order to have key tags?
You do not have to own or drive a car to use our tags. The War Amps key tags may be used on any set of keys you wish to protect.
At the time we issue our key tags, the confidential nine-digit number is registered to an individual's name and address only. This allows greater flexibility since the key tags may be used to protect any set of keys. Many of our donors attach them to their house, office, apartment, cottage, safety deposit box, boat keys and more.
I have moved. Is my key tag number still valid?
Once you report your address change to The War Amps, your file information will be updated. The key tag number will then remain valid until your new ones arrive in the following year.
Is the key tag number transferable to someone else?
No. A new file will be created to reflect this person's name and address. The donor information appearing in our files is always kept confidential.
What is the cost for key tags?
Our service is provided at no charge. We are grateful for any contribution our supporters feel is appropriate. A receipt for income tax purposes is issued for any donation amount.
How many sets of keys have you returned?
The War Amps has returned more than one million sets of keys since the inception of the Key Tag Service in 1946. We depend on persons who have found keys to contact our office by telephone or place them in any mailbox. A bag containing sets of keys is delivered daily by the Post Office. The keys are sorted and returned to their owners immediately by courier or mail. Or, we arrange to have a courier sent to the finder's location so that the keys may be returned to the owner right away.
