“Our journey with The War Amps began following a routine ultrasound. On learning that our daughter Megan would be born missing her left arm, our first reaction was complete disbelief.
“A parent of an amputee encouraged us to enrol in The War Amps Child Amputee (CHAMP) Program. We don’t know where we would be without it.
“Walking into our first CHAMP Seminar, we noticed a couple with a baby girl Megan’s age and were soon joined by another. Our three little girls were all born arm amputees within 10 days of each other. At that moment, a lifelong connection began.
“As she grew, we were concerned that Megan wouldn’t be able to crawl, but her first artificial limb allowed her to push herself up and she soon proved us wrong! The War Amps has opened up a world of possibilities for Megan by helping with the cost of her artificial arms, like the waterproof swim arm that gives her safety and balance in the water.
“At three, Megan began to ask when her arm would grow back. Seminars show her that there are other kids like her and that it’s OK to be an amputee. The War Amps also has resources to introduce her into her classes and groups, which cuts down on staring and questions.”
