News Release From The War Amps

War Amps PSA Featuring Young Amputee
and Hamilton Ticats Airs Thanksgiving Weekend

OCTOBER 6, 2009 - Losing part of his right leg in a lawnmower accident has given seven-year-old Jarod Murray of Vanessa, Ontario, a special interest in spreading The War Amps PLAYSAFE message to other children.

Recently, Jarod joined Hamilton Ticats stars Dan Goodspeed, Marwan Hage and Alexandre Gauthier to film a new War Amps PLAYSAFE public service announcement called Jarod and the Ticats.  It will air nationally during CFL telecasts on TSN starting Thanksgiving weekend and will continue through the playoffs and Grey Cup.

For 30 years, The War Amps and CFL have shared a special tradition - the annual CFL PLAYSAFE PSA, saluting the League's support of The War Amps safety program.

Using the Winner's Circle philosophy, The War Amps Child Amputee (CHAMP) Program changes the lives of Champs like Jarod by providing funding for artificial limbs, counselling, seminars and other programs.  It also spreads the PLAYSAFE message through videos, parade floats, presentations and PSAs like this one.

"Jarod delivers his message in a way that is both fun and hard-hitting at the same time," said War Amps CEO and producer Cliff Chadderton, who notes that the tremendous support  shown by the CFL and the Tiger-Cats will help get this potentially life-saving message out to an even wider audience.

The War Amps receives no government grants.  It is funded solely through public support of the Key Tag and Address Label Service.
