War Amps Cliff Chadderton to Receive Today's Parent Magazine Award in Toronto Today
TORONTO, ON, April 17, 2007 - Today’s Parent Magazine will present War Amps CEO Cliff Chadderton with the 2007 For Kids' Sake Award at 9 a.m. today (Tuesday April 17) in Stop 33 at Toronto’s Sutton Place Hotel, 955 Bay Street.
The For Kids' Sake Award is given to individuals who have made the world better for Canadian children. As part of the Award, Mr. Chadderton will be presented with a $10,000 cheque for The War Amps Child Amputee (CHAMP) Program. Founded by Mr. Chadderton, CHAMP changes the lives of child amputees through funding for artificial limbs, counselling, seminars and programs like Matching Mothers.
Mr. Chadderton was nominated for the Award by Annae Jones of Calgary, a graduate of CHAMP born missing both arms. Having gone on to a successful career and now raising a family, Annae cited Mr. Chadderton’s influence on the success she and so many other Champs have had. Some excerpts from her nomination and supporting letters from others follow:
“Cliff Chadderton’s vision created a world-renowned program called CHAMP. Nothing else like it exists in the world. CHAMP played a pivotal role in my success. It was there every step of the way and gave my family hope. I thank Cliff for making a difference in my life and countless others.” – Annae Jones, Calgary
“We have known Cliff Chadderton since our beautiful baby daughter had the severe misfortune to have been born missing her lower arms from just below her elbows and her lower legs just above her knees. Our daughter, now 21, is a gem and about to graduate from a four year Commerce course at university. We owe so much of this to Cliff Chadderton and CHAMP.” – John & Jackie Hilton, Halifax
“Cliff Chadderton has played a crucial part in my life, challenging me to participate in any sport or activity I could. Academics were also something he has felt was very important to Champs, and started JUMPSTART knowing that knowledge of computers would be key, especially for multiple amputees like me. The members of CHAMP and their families owe Cliff a huge debt of gratitude." – Chris Koch, Ottawa
Mr. Chadderton, who will be asked to speak after receiving the Award today, will also be featured in the May issue of Today’s Parent Magazine.
