War Amps CEO Cliff Chadderton to Receive 2008 Bloorview Kids Rehab Award Tonight
TORONTO, ON, June 18, 2008 - Bloorview Kids Rehab will present War Amps CEO Cliff Chadderton with the 2008 Circle of Honour Award at 6:15 p.m. tonight (Wednesday June 18th) at their location at 150 Kilgour Road in Toronto.
The Award recognizes exceptional contribution to creating a better world for children and youth with disabilities and their families, and honours outstanding achievements in the area of advocacy, education, philanthropy, research and service related to children’s rehabilitation and complex care.
A leg amputee himself due to injuries sustained in the Battle of the Scheldt in World War II, Mr. Chadderton was selected for the Circle of Honour Award for reasons detailed in the following excerpts from the profile prepared by Bloorview Kids Rehab:
“Clifford Chadderton’s contributions in the areas of amputation and rehabilitation have spanned a lifetime. Cliff’s innovation and creativity prompted the creation of the revolutionary Child Amputee (CHAMP) program in 1975. CHAMP is the only program of its kind in the world and has gained international renown for its innovative assistance to children who are born missing limbs or lose limbs due to accidents or medical reasons….Bloorview’s Prosthetics and Orthotics department has benefitted a great deal from CHAMP’s sustained support, from funding to assist with professional development ensuring the newest technology is researched and available to Canadian amputees, to resources that help children get the equipment they need to reach their individual goals. Leading by example, Cliff’s legacy of inclusiveness has had a lasting impact on generations of children with disabilities and their families around the world. “
