OTTAWA, ON, December 21, 2001 - The National Council of Veteran Associations (NCVA) has again written to the Minister of Veterans Affairs suggesting a review procedure which could be put into effect, irrespective of any decision of the Ontario Court of Appeal.

The matter under consideration concerns the payment of interest on trust funds. At the moment, the Pension Act does not provide for retroactivity beyond a January 1, 1990 deadline.

In putting forward a proposal that the Department commence reviewing the situation, it is the opinion of Cliff Chadderton, Chairman of the 40-member National Council of Veteran Associations, that the Government has a responsibility to take a further look at the existing deadline of January 1, 1990, and decide whether action might be taken now by the Department in the nature of an administrative review, without waiting for a Court decision.
