War Amps Pleased With Change in Ontario Nursing Home Regulations
OTTAWA, ON, November 25, 2004 - The War Amps was pleased to see a change in Ontario nursing home regulations which, according to a report in The Canadian Press, will force nursing homes to keep couples together where possible.
This arose out of the case of Brigadier General Ted Beament and his wife, Brenda, in February of this year. The Brigadier was a patient in Ottawa’s Perley and Rideau Veterans’ Health Centre while his wife was confined to a private nursing home across town. The question of allowing nursing home couples to be in the same institution was the subject of a cross-Canada campaign by The War Amps.
“Apparently, the stupidity of separating aged couples in nursing homes is well on the way to some corrective action,” Cliff Chadderton, Chief Executive Officer of The War Amps, stated.
