News Release From The War Amps

Stelco War Veterans Mark Closure with Presentation to War Amps of $80,000

OTTAWA, ON, April 14, 2005 - The War Amps has been notified that it will be presented today (Monday April 18th) with a cheque for $80,000 by the Stelco War Veterans Association.

The presentation will take place at 1 p.m. in the boardroom of the Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation, 40 Wellington Street North .

On making the decision to wind down its Association, the Stelco War Veterans chose The War Amps as a recipient of its residual funds. They will make a similar donation to the Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation today as well.

War Amps Chief Executive Officer Cliff Chadderton will accept the cheque on behalf of The War Amps and in turn will present a plaque with the following inscription:

Stelco War Veterans Association
Hamilton Ontario
1937 to 2005
Donation of $80,000 in memory of
Canadian and Allied Forces to The War Amputations of Canada
April 18, 2005

Chadderton, an infantry commander who lost a leg in the Second World War, says that today’s presentation has an added meaning as 2005 is the Year of the Veteran. “There is no better time for us to honour the Stelco War Veterans Association and to thank them for this generous donation,” he said.

The War Amps receives no government grants. Its many programs for war, civilian and child amputees across Canada are funded solely through donations to the Key Tag and Address Label Service and through special donations such as this one today.
