National Council of Veterans Welcomes Appointment of Fredrik Eaton as Chairman of War Museum Board
OTTAWA, ON, June 26, 2007 - Cliff Chadderton, Chairman of the National Council of Veteran Associations (56 member groups), released a statement today expressing approval of Fredrik Eaton as Chairman of the Board of the Canadian War Museum.
“It is understood,” Chadderton said, “that the departure last week of Joe Geurts as CEO of the War Museum opens the door for a review of a controversial panel at the War Museum which suggests that the heroic Canadians who carried out intensive bombing of industrial facilities supporting the German war effort were ‘war criminals.’“
Organizations representing Royal Canadian Air Force veterans and other spokespersons for the veterans’ community are reported to be working on a new wording which Chadderton said “gives balance to the reports of the effectiveness of Bomber Command in its campaign against Germany in World War II.”
