Matching Mothers (and fathers too!)

“Amputees helping amputees” is the cornerstone of The War Amps philosophy.  Through our Matching Mothers and Junior Counselling Programs, parents and Champs volunteer practical and on-going support to other Champs and their families.

The Matching Mothers Program offers support from parents who have “been there.”  War Amps Chief Executive Officer, Cliff Chadderton, set up the Program in 1984 after hearing from CHAMP parents how valuable it would be to share their own experiences with other parents of an amputee child.

New parents receive tremendous benefit from speaking with an experienced family.  It can be a huge relief for new parents to hear that as their child matures and grows up, they will live full and productive lives.  Only families who have a child with a similar amputation can truly alleviate some of the anxieties that many new parents of an amputee child experience.

CHAMP families who participate volunteer their “peer” support (not professional counselling) to other CHAMP families so they too can develop a strong, positive outlook on the future.

Requests for a match can be made by contacting CHAMP.

We would like to thank you very much for the opportunity to be able to do this. Our families can only give us “love” support, but this match gave us the other support we need.
