E.J. O’Neill
Ernest (E.J.) O’Neill was born on September 8, 1898, in Montreal, Quebec. He enlisted in 1917 at the age of 18 and served with the Canadian Expeditionary Force, during which he lost his left leg above the knee.
He was heavily involved in The War Amps various projects and committees, including:
- War Amps Welfare Committee
- War Amps Death Benefit Program
- War Amps Educational Awards Committee
- War Amps Civilian Liaison Committee
- Dominion Executive Member, The War Amps
- Employment Officer, Quebec Branch
In his role as Employment Officer, he worked hard to obtain and maintain employment for his fellow war amputee veterans in the civil service. Mr. O’Neill was known for never refusing an opportunity to serve on any project where the welfare
of members or their families could be improved.

His many years of hard work were rewarded with The War Amps Meritorious Service Membership and the Distinguished Service Membership.
Mr. O’Neill passed away on March 17, 1967, and is buried at the Champ d'Honneur Cemetery in Pointe-Claire, Quebec.
