Art Johnson

Arthur (Art) Johnson was born on April 12, 1929. He enlisted with the Canadian Army Special Force and joined 26,000 other Canadians in the fight for the freedom of South Korea, serving as a mortar man with the Royal Canadian Regiment. In August 1952, on the day he was supposed to go home, he was delayed and found himself on Hill 355 near Seoul in the midst of intense enemy shelling. A mortar landed close by, wounding him and resulting in the loss of his right leg above the knee and damage to his right arm.

Mr. Johnson was a member of The War Amps Toronto Branch. He contributed his time to various activities of the Association and shared his experiences as an amputee with others.

He passed away on July 24, 2006.
