Ron Reid

Ronald (Ron) Charles Reid was born on May 4, 1921, in Toronto, Ontario. He enlisted in the Canadian Army at the age of 19 and was sent overseas for training. On D-Day, June 6, 1944, he landed in Normandy, France, with the Queen’s Own Rifles amidst heavy enemy machine gun and mortar fire. He was badly injured and lost his left leg above the knee.

Mr. Reid returned home to Canada and joined The War Amps Toronto Branch, later relocating to Torbay, Newfoundland, in 1983 and joining the branch there. During his time with those two branches, he held the positions of:

  • First Vice-President, Toronto Branch
  • Secretary, Newfoundland Branch

He was known for attending many CHAMP seminars throughout his life and was awarded the Honorary CHAMP Membership in 1988 for his years of support.

Mr. Reid passed away on January 10, 2006.
