CHARLOTTETOWN “CHAMP” TO BE RECOGNIZED BY MAYOR LEE

June 6, 2016 – Matthew Handrahan, 22, of Charlottetown, will be presented with one of the 2016 Citizen Recognition Awards by Mayor Clifford Lee, in recognition of his involvement with The War Amps and for spreading important messages in the community.

Matthew, born a left arm amputee, is a Graduate member of The War Amps Child Amputee (CHAMP) Program. He has been a Junior Counsellor to younger amputees at CHAMP Seminars, and helps spread The War Amps PLAYSAFE message by participating in regional parades and educating children to spot the danger in their neighbourhoods. Matthew also helps pass on the remembrance message to the younger generation by laying a wreath at the local Remembrance Day ceremonies on behalf of The War Amps Operation Legacy.
